Sanctuary Tattoo Artist Sean Meraw!
|
A good dj is a key component to a successful night-club and thats why I've been blogging about the Dj's I like that influence me to get out on the dance floor make me and party till I drop....however I've decided to also focus other types of artists that might not be involved in the club-scene, but definitely shape and influence it just the same......
I'm talking about the fashion designers, tattoo artists, hair/make-up stylists, personal trainers, photographers,.....the people that help us achieve the look we want to be individuals, to stand out, and to feel ourselves. I've decided to showcase these artists in a spot-light type format once a week along with my blogs about events and nights out. This is so that readers can get a chance to see whats good in Windsor!
Hope you enjoy my first spot light on Sanctuary Tattoo artist SEAN MERAW!!!
Sean, how did you get started tattooing and who or what influenced you?
I started tattooing in the winter of 2008, and my training at first came from watching myself get tattooed and asking lots of questions, whys and hows. So no "formal" training at first, but through some miracle Rob Brown (owner of sanctuary) decided to take me under his wing and offered me an apprenticeship, so now I do have formal training, and life is good.
Rob brown has been tattooing in windsor for the past decade at sanctuary tattoos. He owns the shit, where peter baille and my self work. He is very welll known for his asian style and very good at what he does.
I recieved my first tattoo machines as a christmas gift, I had always been into drawing and loved tattoos and getting them, tattooing never really crossed my mind however until that christmas.

Some of Sean's other influences are.....
Kris Kani www.idealimagery.com
Nikko Hurtado www.ignitiontattoo.com
Grime www.tattoos-gallery.net/grime-tattoo
Jeff Gogue www.gogueart.com
Shige www.myspace.com/shigenoriiwasaki

Do you notice a difference between different ethnicities or sexes when it comes to choices in tattoos?
No, I havent noticed any kind of pattern or stereotypes. Some people have really cool ideas be they black, white, red, yellow, blue...
and the same goes for the wacked out lame ideas, it just depends on the individual and how fucking rad they naturally are.
Tell me who your dream client would be?

Anyone who doesnt tell me how long their tattoo should take, I'd like to think I'm pretty easy though. Maybe Meghan Fox, or Marisa Tomei... no, no, my dream client would go like this... " Sean i have this cool idea, do whatever you want with it and put it wherever you think it should go, i want it to be huge... oh and I want lots of colour... and blood!"
What wont you tattoo?
Im not a fan of going over other peoples shitty tattoos, I wont do that anymore, not that i think im above it or anything, it just doesnt feel enjoyable, and im here to enjoy this. Other than that Im good to go if i have some kind of say in the design.
What are your future plans for yourself as well as Sanctuary?
I plan on staying here as long as rob and peter will have me. I love it here. i just want to tattoo, I dont ever want that to leave my life. Its that missing piece of the puzzle, the search for what I want to be when I grow up is finally over you know?
